michelle forbes

Published by dave under General

I was watching last friday’s episode of battlestar galactica (always awesome), it was the summer finale before it resumes in january. battlestar galactica reunites with the battlestar pegasus, which is commanded by admiral cain who turned out to be the same actress who plays this woman:

strangely attractive… and also strangely familiar. her name is michelle forbes and it turns she was ensign ro laren on st:tng, and also was lynn kresge (i think she wass the press secretary?) from 24 season 2. when the series resumes in jaunary, she and adama are gun throw down!

New standard of enforcement in ethe NHL

Published by dave under General

For people that have been watching hockey for a while… this is going to be a pretty drastic change. It has been reflected in the preaseason as well… teams with 10+ power plays per game…
Rules video

Hope teams adjust soon… a game full of power plays will be pretty boring. And slow, big players are going to become useless fast.

powershot s80 out

Published by dave under General

i’m a little behind on this, as it seems like it was posted aug 22, but canon has released the powershot s80, which uses their new digic II processor. that’s the same one used in the SD line and such that noticeably speeds up autofocus lag.

there isn’t a detailed review of it out yet, but i’m still curious if they managed to fix any of the wide-angle purple fringing problems - however, since this seems to be a problem with small wide-angle lens in general, i guess i can’t hopeful.

newest pretty thing…

…that everybody wants

the ipod nano

i gotta say, i never had any interest in the ipod. it was way too big and burdensome for running or any other physical activity. the good thing about the ipod was that it had a rechargeable lithium ion battery, which i still can’t seem to find in any other mp3 player.

the subsequent models: the ipod mini… i might have pulled the trigger on that had they had a color of more interest to me than silver - let’s not even start on the other pastel ones. the ipod shuffle, i was this close, especially at the price point, but when i actually saw it in person, i realized that the lack of a screen made more of an impact that i thought, and additionally, it just seemed really cheap and non-functional.

but finally, the ipod nano. the right size, the right feature set, the right price point where i’m thinking “gosh, sort of pricey, but it’s worth it.” i would have just been happy with a color screen and the ability to scroll through music, but it has the added bonus of being able to load photos, and all the standard ipod features like: games, calendar, podcast playback, clocks… and other things to entertain me while i’m bored or on the can.

my only complaint is that the earphone jack is on the bottom of the unit, which renders it useless while on the dock - but i suppose if you have to load the songs from your home computer through itunes anyways (presumably where you have your dock) then it’s not a big deal. i think they might have put it there because they found that users have an easier time reading song titles if they wear the unit upside down on their arm or around their necks. possibly.

now the only question is, white or black? waiting for it to come out in stores to check it out in person.

an update: saw it in the apple store today. man, that thing is slim and light. i’m now just worried that it’ll fly right out of my pocket/hands. as for the black vs white debate… still up in the air. the deal is, there’s a thing layer of plastic over the top of the ipod which covers the screen and the rest of the front (except the scroll ring). the fingerprints will get on that, but it is really the actual paint that is reflective, so even on the black, the fingerprints aren’t that noticeable. however, i think i’m still leaning towards the white. it just looks cleaner.

a temporary distraction…

Published by dave under General

while i think of something to post… it’s been a 2 weeks+ now…

here’s a picture of the my newest shiner.

notice it’s not green, so it’s nothing serious. it just looks cool and makes people go “dude, what did you do to your elbow?”

enjoy.

it’s a nice day out. perfect for going out and hurting myself some more… that, or taking a shower, getting a haircut and getting some exercise. then maybe some shopping tomorrow.

speaking of shopping. the newest pretty thing that everyone wants… actually, that’s a post of it’s own…
