I heard the recording of this call on the howard stern show this morning while i was driving to work. this girl was amazing. keep in mind that she hasn’t even started kindergarten yet.

went down to socal again this last weekend for a quick trip. i wasn’t expecting there to be a lot of traffic, but thanks to all those darn spring break college kids, the roads were pretty congested. especially on the way back… 580W from the 5 to 880 was a disaster… because then you’re throwing all those darn snowboarders and skiiers on there too. they can’t invent the transporter soon enough…
down in socal, it was relatively chill. the only full day there was saturday, so i went and finally visited nick’s place… played halo 2, found out that i need to re-adjust to fps games again (having done so a couple of months ago for jedi knight) and then went to a boba place called volcano tea? it was pretty good.
at night, i went and hung out with some of christina’s friends and we watched the “five people you meet in heaven.” the tv adaption of the popular book. it was okay… i would have rather watched the battlestar galactica mini-series which i brought down, or angels in america, which i also brought. after that, we watched more tv, including nip tuck which is uber on the shady scale. and some of the roast of jeff foxworthy. unfortunately, i basically couldn’t hear anything because i’m basically deaf and the volume wasn’t turned up all that high.
next day, had dim sum for lunch and then started the long drive back up. we left around 3:30 and ended up getting back at 11. yeah. a little painful.
before my hockey game tonight, had dinner with the family at our usual place because angela’s heading back for her basically last quarter at davis. so sad… soon we’ll all be graduated… and living at home. what a generation we are.
after dinner, i went to my hockey game, but it turned out that i left my sticks at home. what happened was, i took my sticks out of my car before the trip to LA so they wouldn’t take up space. but since i was in a rush this morning, i just did my standard game-day routine and grabbed my bag, stuck it in the trunk, and left, totally neglecting the sticks that were still in the garage. and to my disbelief, NOT A SINGLE right handed skater on my team had a spare stick. and just to rub it in, EVERY left handed skater had spare sticks. as a result, we had a pull a ghetto play where everytime one of the defensemen had to line change, they would hand their stick off to the guy going on… so we played the game sharing 2 sticks between 3 skaters. we ended up losing 5-4. bah.
alright, that’s enough. i’ve just started a new project at work as a lead. this is my first time really using excel to try and plan tasks and i gotta say… what waste of time. it’s not that it’s not functional, it’s just that you’re forced to make things presentable because you have to be showing these schedules to other people. if it were up to me… it’d be emacs, a list of tasks in order, estimated effort, who’s doing what, and that’s it. nice, simple, to the point. but this beast that i’ve made is nuts. i think it may just be that i don’t know the advanced tricks in excel, like, writing macros or using pivot tables. if i have to do a lot more of these… it may be time to learn.
also finished watching the battlestar galactica mini-series. i think the series is actually better than the mini-series, but the mini-series does provide the background for the regular series. all watching it really makes me look forward to, is the continuation of the regular series… especially after the way season 1 ended… and grace park is also growing on me.

from usa today.
and more from USA today, 24 is in the #10 spot for viewers 18-49 demographic. this is especially encouraging because for the week of march 14-20, 24 was not preceded by american idol, previously it had been suggested that 24 was doing so well because it followed american idol. but this suggests that this was not the case, and people tuned in for 24 regardless of whether or not american idol was on beforehand.
makes me happy. means there will probably be a season 5 =)

what do you think it represents? to me, it looks like people with tape over their mouths with “LIFE” written on the tape. i would think that usually when people wear tape over their mouths, they are being silenced by something. in this case, i would have thought that these people are being silenced by life, or the people demanding that terri schiavo stay alive.
turns out that unless i got it wrong, these are actually the people protesting that terri schiavo be kept alive. they’re sending a mixed message if you ask me.

i’m kind of getting tired of myrandomshih.com. it isn’t an especially wholesome name, although it does convey the idea of what this site is… a bunch of nothing much. i was giving “dsection.com” (dissection/dave’s section) “shihsection.com” (shih section/c-section… which i guess isn’t too pleasant either) or “shihnanigans.com” some thought, but the “shih” and clever word play thing is wearing thin on me. only problem is, with the proliferation of sites out there nowadays, it’s hard to get anything that isn’t some sort of wordplay or proper-noun inclusive.
